Revenge of the Sith Summary
Just as you'd
expect from a space opera based film this movie starts with the main characters
in space in an epic battle between the separatists and the republican. It is
Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi that start the film off with a bang with a space
battle while in there ships. It soon has them landing on the space ship and
beginning the task at hand of rescuing the chancellor. It is at this point that
we already have seen space ships, robots, lightsabers and ray guns; all in the
first 10-15 in of the film. The two jedi soon make quick work of the robots on
board the ship and move to free the chancellor which they of course do.
However, in the process they kill the sith Count Dooku which has been an
important character though the other movies in the way of diabolical plots. The
jedi responsible for the death of him is none other than Anakin which helps put
him on his way toward his fiendish future. Once they return in victory the
viewer can already see that the chancellor is using his power to win over
Anakin to his side; the dark side. This was done through the appointment of
Anakin to the jedi council by the chancellor which was not his place in normal
practice. It soon becomes more and more evident that the chancellor is
favouring Anakin as he invites him to plays and tells him about the power that
the dark side has over life and death. This is following Anakins nightmares of
his secret wife dying while giving birth to his twin children. At this point he
was incredible vulnerable as the jedi have the power to see the future and this
is a premonition not simply a dream. While this is happening Obi-Wan is away on
a distant planet trying to capture general grievous. He does manage to track
down the mechanically enhanced human and kill him theoretically ending the war.
However, at approximately the same time across the galaxy Windu and a couple
other jedi are trying to take down chancellor palpatine for he had revealed he
was the sith lord to Anakin. Windu with the help of the other jedi was able to
over power the sith lord and was about to take his life when Anakin intervened
in the affair to salvage what little hope there was ignored to save his wife.
Once, windu was defeated in the endeavour the chancellor put out a kill order
on all jedi around the galaxy by the clone troops since it is the chancellors
hope to become the ruler of the entire galaxy and the jedi stand to ruin his
plan. Soon the entirety of the jedi temple was wiped out with few survivors
left scattered about the universe. At this point Anakin has switched to the
dark side and has made the vow to be a sith apprentice; his first task upon
receiving this is to destroy the jedi padawans. He preforms this task
mercilessly by cutting up the children with his lightsaber. Once Obi-Wan finds
out about this he faces Anakin and a battle ensures which is won by Obi-Wan and
Anakin is left limbless to die on a molten planet surface, but the sith lord
has other plans and rescues him. However, after hearing about Anakins atrocities
his wife loses the will to life after birth of her children because the man she
loves is gone and she doesn't with to continue without him.
As the last
movie it shows the true elements of Space Opera throughout the movie. Again
advanced technologies are present, with reference to the: space travel,
lightsabers, ray guns, robots, advanced communication like projections,
intergalactic phone calls, and cyborgs. Also, there is action all the way
through just like the last with the attempts to defeat the sith and
separatists. There is even romance present throughout between Anakin and Padme
in the beginning and the show of what someone is willing to do for the one they
love. Therefore, it hits all the main characteristics of a space opera: it
takes place in space, advanced weapons, advanced technologies, full of
adventure, and the formulaic order of occurrences which is becoming ever more
evident.
From what i have seen I believe that the formula for true space opera is that: they start in space in their spaceship, then they show their advanced technologies and weapons, then there is a battle of some degree and finally the hero wins the battle defeating the enemy. Also throughout the entirety of the plot there is romance of some degree backing the overall plot; which is seen with Anakin and Padme.
